20th August 2019, 16:00 - 20:00

Led by: Shirley Otto, Specialist in governance in charities and associations in Scotland

The role of the Chair of a Board is engrossing, vital to good governance, and not straightforward. It is a role that can be demanding and yet give immense satisfaction from work together with others to make a real difference.

Being an effective Chair means understanding the nature of the role, managing personalities and behaviours, and appreciating how these dynamics are shaped by the context in which the Board and the organisation operate. This workshop will explore the motivations and expectations of the Chair’s role and as well as the paradoxes and dilemmas inherent in it.

This evening workshop will be a mix of short talks, case studies and exercises in small groups. There will be notes based on investigate leading research and best-practice examples of robust governance.
