Event description

Description

The chalk carpet moth inhabits calcareous grassland (overlying chalk and limestone), particularly that which has formed in old limestone quarries; of which Durham has many. This night flying moth is easily disturbed during the day. Widely distributed in the south of the country, this moth has declined in the Durham area to the point where there is only one recent record from Wingate Quarry; but this can’t be the only place where we find it in Durham surely!? We hope you will join us to investigate the quarries and grasslands of Durham to find new records and inform the conservation of this rare moth in July.
