Event description
Dr Matthew Pope is Principal Research Fellow in Palaeolithic Archaeology at the UCL Institute of Archaeology.

About this Event

In this talk he will consider the prehistoric forces that shaped the chalk landscape of the South Downs National Park, from the deep cycles of climate change that laid down the chalk in the age of the Dinosaurs through to the power of freezing and thawing water during the Ice Age.

The role of humans is also considered and how we might read the archaeology of the National Park in seeing how our own species shaped the landscape's unique ecology.
