Event description

Description

The HM Treasury Labour Market Conference brings together leading economists, commentators, policymakers and providers from Whitehall, academia, think tanks and the wider world to discuss issues at the forefront of labour market policymaking.

This year the conference will focus on challenges and opportunities for the labour market. Whilst rising employment has been a strength in the UK labour market in recent times, the public debate has highlighted developments that could bring exciting opportunities and complex challenges to the labour market. The conference will provide a forum for our speakers and audience to discuss these developments and what they might mean for policymaking going forward.

The conference will feature keynote presentations from Steve Machin, Director of the Centre for Economic Performance and Professor at the London School of Economics and Stefano Scarpetta, Director of Employment, Labour and Social Affairs at the OECD who will give their views on these important issues from a domestic and international perspective respectively.

There will also be two panel discussions featuring a range of speakers focussing on:

1. Non-standard Employment; and

2. The Impact of Brexit on the Labour Market

Further details, including the full programme of speakers, will be provided closer to the date of the conference.
