Challenges Presented by Corrosion of Offshore Facilities - Continued!
Wed 29 March 2017, 17:15 – 18:45 BST
Technical Lecture of the IMarEST South East England & London Home Counties Branch, presented by Mr. James Krol CEng, Krol Consulting Ltd.
Corrosion continues to be the number 1 threat to offshore oil and gas facilities. Previous presentations by the lecturer have emphasised the importance of materials selection, but corrosion issues can still be encountered even when the correct materials are used, but when the operating conditions are quite different to those originally envisaged.
This lecture will present issues being experienced with bacterial corrosion, in particular Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC), with sources of bacteria in the system being inadvertently introduced by design flaws or by operating the system outside its design parameters. This presentation will include a demonstration of basic corrosion engineering principles which are the foundation of equipment designed to prevent marine growth occurring in piping systems - systems which have been compromised by the inadvertent introduction of bacteria.
James Krol is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 40 years’ experience of managing the integrity of oil and gas facilities, both offshore and onshore. James has developed countless Integrity Management (IM) Programmes for the majority of Major Offshore Operating Companies and currently provides technical integrity solutions in support of BP’s operational FPSOs offshore Angola.
Free and open to all IMarEST members, their guests, non-members and students. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certificates will be available at the end of the meeting for all attendees if requested. The lecture will start promptly at 1730 - please arrive before then.
