About this event

IAS Residential Fellow Dr Andrea Pérez Fernández delivers a workshop for Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) -

This workshop invites postgraduate researchers to critically engage with the legacy of several women thinkers and artists of the turn-of-the-century Germany, focusing on the intersection of their artistic and political practices, as well as their written statements. By reflecting on prevailing assumptions about the relationship between art and politics, we will examine the biases that influence the interpretation of political art and explore strategies for challenging these preconceptions.

Subsequently, we will consider how to incorporate women into the canon of visual and intellectual history in ways that go beyond mere inclusion. Drawing on primary sources, we will demonstrate how historical insights can inform contemporary research and support more inclusive and critical academic practices. In this spirit, the session will follow a methodology of co-producing knowledge, while also offering participants access to lesser-known primary materials that can enrich and deepen their own research.

Arrivals from 12:45pm for a 1:00pm start.
