Event description

Description

The hostile environment in the NHS has had a devastating impact on migrant health, attacking the rights of patients as well as undermining the professional duties of healthcare workers. Upfront charging and ID checks are deterring people from accessing treatment and are completely at odds with the founding principles of the NHS.

Join us at 2-5pm on Saturday 27 April at St Martins Youth and Community Centre, Gooch Street, Birmingham B5 7HE to find out more about:

  • How NHS policies are affecting patients and healthcare workers.

  • How we can join together to challenge the hostile environment in the NHS.

Everyone welcome.

Organised by Migrants Organise and DocsNotCops.

Migrants Organise is a platform where refugees and migrants organise for power, dignity and justice. We develop leadership and open up spaces for relational, organised participation of migrants and refugees in public life. We know that migrants and refugees make a positive contribution to our country - migration is fact of life, so instead of resisting it, let’s organise it!

DocsNotCops fights to make the NHS a safe space for all. We believe healthcare is a human right, yet increasingly people living in the UK are being denied access to treatments and sometimes lifesaving care. No one should be afraid to go to the doctor, either because they can’t pay or might be punished. And doctors should not have to police the people they treat.
