The Chamber Lunch has now become an essential part of the business diary. Now the largest business event in the region it provides an opportunity to network with over 200 business people.
This year we have Chief Superintendent Ellie Bird who is responsible for policing all of Scotland's main transport links. She was the first woman to be appointed as an Area Commander with the British Transport Police. She is also taking the lead for transport security for the Commonwealth Games.
Ellie will be retiring shortly before moving to Kenya to work for Vision Africa.

Biography for Chief Superintendent Ellie Bird
Ellie Bird was appointed as Area Commander for the Scotland area of British Transport Police (BTP) in January 2010. She is the first woman to be promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent with BTP and the first woman to be appointed as an Area Commander.
She is currently the lead for Transport Security for this year’s XXth Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
She started her police career as a cadet in the West Midlands, serving in Coventry, Solihull, Handsworth and Birmingham in a variety of uniform and CID roles. She has been a firearms and public order ground commander as well as being seconded to the Home Office for a year to help set up the National Internet Safety Centre and working with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) in defining criteria for their Baseline Assessment process.
As a Chief Inspector, she ran the West Midlands Police press office before joining the London North area of BTP as a Detective Chief Inspector in February 2006.
She was promoted to the rank of Superintendent in October the same year, heading up policing operations on the London Underground and Docklands Light Railway and in 2009 became the force’s Director of Intelligence based at force headquarters in London.
Ellie is also a board member of the Scottish Business Resilience Centre and a UK Patron for Vision Africa.
