How well do our health systems really understand women’s bodies?

Join the Chambers Wales SESWM Women’s Network for a powerful session hosted by Blake Morgan and co-led by the British Heart Foundation , proud members of Chambers Wales.

We’ll explore the gender health gap, challenge the assumptions that still shape care, and hear lived experiences from women affected, all with the goal of changing the story for future generations.

From crash test dummies to clinical trials, from workplace PPE to drug development, biological bias has shaped the way decisions are made, often at the expense of women’s health and wellbeing.

Some important insights to consider:

  • Women are 47% more likely to be seriously injured in a car crash, because safety design is based on male bodies.
  • Just 25% of participants in landmark clinical trials are women.
  • Across a range of conditions, women are diagnosed later and treated less aggressively, with serious consequences.

When it comes to heart health:

  • Heart disease kills more than twice as many women as breast cancer in the UK.
  • Women are 50% more likely to receive the wrong diagnosis after a heart attack.
  • Younger women face double the risk of misdiagnosis, often dismissed as anxious or emotional.

“I was 36, healthy and active. I went to A&E with chest pain — they said it was likely anxiety. Hours later, I had a heart attack.” ( bias-and-biology-briefing.pdf)

It’s time to explore bias, biology and the urgent need for equity in women’s health.
