Event description

Description

Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th October from 10 am until 2 pm. Attendance is required both days.

We are delighted to announce that we have secured funding to run a 2-day workshop on the theme of change and resilience to help young people who have made the transition from primary to secondary school. Such a significant change can be very daunting for young people with a diagnosis of autism or ADHD as they rely on familiar routines and structures to feel secure and thrive. This would be appropriate for young people who are still settling into Year 7 or those in year 8 and have found the transition challenging. The young people need to be able to attend independently. Parents are obviously welcome to drop off and collect, but not to stay during the session.

The workshop will be led by two sesame trained drama therapists, Caroline McKeating and Beth Salisbury

The workshop will use a combination of games and creative art activities to help the children explore how they feel about their recent transition, what their past experiences of change have been as well as their hopes and fears for their journey through secondary school.

These activities will help lessen feelings of isolation through sharing with peers and normalise and diffuse their worries about the challenges they’ve experienced. The workshop aims to give different perspectives of change including potential benefits. It will also help build resilience and celebrate the strengths and coping strategies of the participants.

The cost of the workshop is just £10.00 + booking fee for the two days. Places will be limited, so we do suggest booking as early as possible.

The workshop schedule is :
9:45-10:00 arrival time
10:00-2:00 workshop time
12:00 lunch with breaks in between morning and afternoon session.

Children will need to bring a packed lunch. Soft drinks and snacks will be provided. They will need to dress comfortably, and we will need to know about any allergies, conditions or special needs.
