Archives and Mental Wellbeing Conference

Thursday 15th March 2018, 10am - 3pm, Lunch provided

at Norfolk Record Office, Norwich

Archives can be used to improve the mental wellbeing of people who have mental health problems.  That is the conclusion of the University of East Anglia’s evaluation of the Change Minds project.  Using 19th century County Asylum records as a starting point, this project combined archive research and creativity to help people along the path of the Five Ways for Mental Wellbeing.

Change Minds is a partnership between the Norfolk Record Office and two mental health charities, the Restoration Trust and Together UK.  Having completed two successful years of Change Minds, this partnership wants to share its successes and the evidence that it works.  On Thursday 15 March 2018, we will be running a free conference at the Norfolk Record Office.

At the Conference, we will be launching a pack containing copies of the key project documents, such as support frameworks and session plans, and the results of the project evaluation: Evidence which you can use to support your own funding applications;  evidence that Change Minds has used to secure funding from two local charities so that its work can continue.

To reserve a place at this free conference, please contact tasha@restorationtrust.org.uk.  If you would like to know more about the project and its relevance for archives, please contact gary.tuson@norfolk.gov.uk.

Change Minds is a transformative archival adventure for people from North Norfolk who live with mental health conditions and are on low incomes, carers, volunteers and staff. Researching two digitised 19th Century Norfolk County Asylum Case Books at Norfolk Record Office, Change Minds engages local people and online visitors in the stories it reveals during a fascinating investigation into local heritage, mental health and identity.

Change Minds is a partnership between the Restoration Trust, Norfolk Record Office and Together for Mental Wellbeing. Supported by Norfolk Library and Information Service, University of East Anglia, Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, NSFT Inspire, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Norwich Town Close Estate Charity and NORAH - The Norfolk Archives & Heritage Development Foundation.
