Description

Background

ODI Leeds & The ODI are working with DCMS to complete a Discovery piece of work to understand how the mapping relating to our Telecoms & Digital Infrastructure should be developed.

This is a workshop is part of a short Discovery phase project for DCMS to understand uses for open data describing the UK’s public sector telecommunications and digital infrastructure.

The project will gather requirements from new and potential users, through 3 workshops (Leeds/ London & Bristol), and then provide recommendations around how to best publish and share the data.

We are inviting a relatively small group of up to 20 people to join us @ODILeeds to explore the subject and make recommendations to DCMS.

Who Should come

If you own infrastructure, or publish and/or use this data we'd love to get your input.

You could be

  • local authorities
  • large and small SME telecoms operators
  • construction companies
  • data innovators, startups, SMEs
  • regulators

What will happen in the workshop and what will happen next?

How you can help?

  • We want to engage with both publishers and users of this data.
  • Publishers will be public sector organisations that run or lease telecom and digital infrastructure.
  • Users could be anyone exploring ways to improve usage and value gained from that infrastructure.
  • It could be startups, could be government itself, or other organisations that might want to suggest better ways to use the infrastructure, using a description of it & its capacity, etc as evidence & input
  • We’re looking to draw on both publishers and consumers to understand better ways to make this data available, surface ideas for how it can be used, and any additional requirements around moving forward with projects that use it
  • What will be the overall benefit to all parties in the room?
  • It’s an opportunity to provide input that will shape how important aspects of our national infrastructure are openly published, creating the basis for it to be run or used more efficiently.

What happens next?

  • The requirements from the workshop will be fed back to DCMS as a report, and shared with the contributors to the workshops.
