White Ribbon UK's work focuses on engaging men and boys to prevent violence against women by tackling its root causes - harmful and restrictive gender norms. It's vital that men are part of the solution to ending violence against women and girls, by reflecting on their own attitudes and behaviours, exploring healthy expressions of masculinity and ultimately how this contributes to healthier lives for themselves and to achieving gender equality.

On Wednesday 29th November, 12:30-1:15pm, Leyla Buran, Campaigns and Policy Manager at White Ribbon UK, will be joined by ANDYSMANCLUB, Luke’s Lads and Dr Stephen Burrell.

Meet the Panel:

Lucas Whitehead, Head of Marketing and Partnerships at ANDYSMANCLUB.

ANDYSMANCLUB are a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and online. They want to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation.

Rachel Walmsley, founder of Luke's Lads. Rachel has been offering dance/fitness therapy for over 30 years and has much experience of working with vulnerable groups including those with severe disabilities, learning disabilities, the elderly and more recently, girls who have experienced Child Sexual Exploitation. Her qualifications include IDTA for several dance genres, Para-dance, England Athletics Run Leader, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid and ASIST (Assured Suicide Intervention Skills Training). She is also a qualified personal trainer. Rachel is also Leeds Mind Family Postvention Practitioner she works with families in the Kirklees area who have been bereaved by suicide.

Luke’s Lads is a mental health charity that uses fitness to help young men and boys. Luke’s Lads offers young men and boys a free fitness session, followed by the chance to talk with others about their mental health in a supportive environment.

Dr Stephen Burrell, a Trustee of White Ribbon UK and the Deputy Director of the Durham University Centre for Research into Violence and Abuse (CRiVA). Stephen is a leading researcher on masculinity in the UK. He is a Deputy Director of the Centre for Research into Violence and Abuse and co-hosts an educational podcast called ‘Now and Men: Current conversations about men’s lives.’
