Event description

Description

Tulip Siddiq MP and Changing Faces would like to invite you to a special Parliamentary Reception to raise awareness of the experience young people with a visible difference face every day. The event will take place on Wednesday 23rd May at the House of Commons. This event is invite only.

At Changing Faces we know that looking and feeling different in a society where appearance is valued very highly can be extremely difficult – particularly for young people who are under such pressure to look ‘perfect’. There are 86,000 children of school age in the UK today with a disfigurement. Our research shows that almost half of young people with visible differences are bullied about their appearance at school.

Changing Faces is launching a year of action launched on Face Equality Day – May 23rd 2018. This will focus on the experiences of children and young people. Our parliamentary reception is being co-produced with young people and they will be at the very heart of the event. You will hear from young people about their experiences of living life with a visible difference as well as finding out about our grounding breaking research which will be published during the event.

We hope you can join Tulip Saddiq MP and Changing Faces for a remarkable evening of celebrating young people and indeed highlighting some of the discrimination they experience for having a visible difference.
