Professionals to join us in a day of learning, networking, and exploration of how OD, Change and Learning practice needs to develop to support a diverse, trusted and modern police force for all. We will be hearing from Keith Fraser, Chair of the Youth Justice Board and former police superintendent, talk about his experience of policing, the priorities for policing today and the work we must all do in moving towards a Force for All in these times.

Facilitated by Beverley Powell and Toby Lindsay, with this context in mind, the workshop will give you time to think and reflect on best practice in OD and change, network and learn with peers. Together we will develop and share ideas and tools to take away and support your work and practice. We aim to build a network and community of OD practice in policing that benefits you now and in the future. The event will be followed up with dissemination of key ideas, insights and actions and an on-going network of connection for those who wish to be involved.

Speakers and facilitators

Keith Fraser, Chair, Youth Justice Board

Keith is the Chair of the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales, appointed by The Secretary of State on April 14, 2020, after becoming a member in January 2018. He is also an Advisor for the National Police Chiefs Council Digital Engagement Project for Young People, Chair of Employability UK, and a trustee on the Board of Sport Birmingham and the National Emergency Services memorial.

Before this, Keith was a Superintendent and Chief Inspector in the West Midlands Police, having joined the Metropolitan Police as a Constable, during which time he produced the 2016-19 Preventing Gang Involvement and Youth Violence strategy and was Head of Learning and Development for 13,000 staff.

Keith also produced the business plan for the City of Wolverhampton Council, where he was the Chair of the authority’s statutory Youth Offending Management Board. He led an innovative, preventative project, targeting over 7,000 young people, working with Sport England and was the Strategic Police Lead for the Prince's Trust across the West Midlands.

Beverley Powell, Associate Consultant, Skills for Justice

Beverley Powell is a Development Manager at Yorkshire and the Humber Leadership Academy. Beverley is the strategic lead for all things Inclusion and Talent Management and is a certified Life Coach and Mentor.

In 2014, Beverley was nationally recognised by the Health Service Journal (HSJ) as one of the top 50 BME Pioneers for her work in supporting providing the strategic direction of Inclusion and Talent Management of within the NHS, namely her research and analysis of the inequalities of Trans patients accessing primary and secondary care in the NHS. Beverley brings to her role a wealth of Management, HR, Coaching and leadership experience from her many years of employment within both the private and public sectors.

Beverley’s work in the inclusion and Talent Management space is shaped by the work of Richard Delgado: Critical Race Theory, Professor Kimberly Crenshaw and her work on addressing multiple levels of discrimination Intersectionality. This is combined with her Organisational Development training and mindset, and the work of the internationally known OD leader, Mee Yang Cheung Judge.

Beverley Powell is an experienced equality and diversity professional and the winner of multiple national awards for her contributions towards equality, diversity and inclusion. Her 15-year career has encompassed both the public and private sectors and her outstanding leadership has led to strategic outcomes for a range of organisations.

Beverley is an accredited life coach, a qualified police trainer, a mentor and a transformational leader and she is the author of the research study, ‘A critical analysis of the Transgender experience when accessing primary and secondary care within the NHS’.

Toby Lindsay, Principal Consultant, Skills for Justice

Toby is a leadership and organisational consultant with over twenty years’ experience working in executive education, as a Consultant, Executive Coach and Facilitator for a range of organisations across private, public and third sectors.

Before this he founded and led a group of companies in the international education and vocational learning sector, and experienced the challenges, successes and struggles of organisational life and leadership.

Toby’s focus is on supporting learning for positive benefit and impact at the individual and organisational level, bringing his breadth and depth of skill and experience to this work. His recent clients include NHS, NCA, Surrey and Sussex Police force, The Post Office, The Financial Times, Save The Children, Greenwich Leisure Limited, V-Group and BAM Construction.

Toby has led OD interventions, OD Consultancy, the co-creation of organisational learning communities, Leadership Development, Action Learning Set facilitator training, Open Space exploration, large group facilitation and executive coaching to mid-level and senior leaders with great success. He was cohort Director on the award-winning Elizabeth Garrett Anderson MSc in Healthcare Leadership and Course Director on the Roffey Park MSc in People and Organisation Development. He has held several academic posts and is soon to embark on a PhD exploring loss and learning in organisational leadership.

He works to focus his clients on purpose and shared meaning to build strategic organisational cultures which are driven by, and serve, their values and mission.
