Description

Chaplains on Campus report launch & training conference, 9th May 2019, Durham

You are invited to the launch of the report Chaplains on Campus: Understanding Chaplaincy in UK Universities, the product of over 400 interviews with chaplains and faith advisors from across the religious spectrum, university managers and representatives of organisations that support chaplaincy at a local and national level, as well as a survey of students who use chaplaincy services.

The Prior’s Hall, Durham Cathedral, Durham, 10am – 4pm. Attendance, lunch & refreshments are free of charge.

At the event you will learn:

• Who are today’s university chaplains and what role do they play in universities?

• How is chaplaincy adapting to an increasingly multi-faith environment?

• How is university chaplaincy resourced, and how can this be improved?

• Who accesses chaplaincy services and why?

• What do chaplains, university managers, students and religion and belief organisations think is the purpose of chaplaincy?

• How can chaplains, universities and religion and belief organisations work together effectively?

The day will include presentations by report authors Prof Kristin Aune (Coventry University), Prof Mathew Guest (Durham University) and Revd Dr Jeremy Law (Canterbury Christ Church University), a panel of practitioner experts and an interactive workshop focused on how the findings can contribute to the development of your own professional practice.

Panellists will include: Siriol Davies (Interfaith Advisor and Chaplaincy Development Officer, Anglican Diocese of Suffolk), Shaunaka Rishi Das (Director of the Centre for Hindu Studies and Hindu Chaplain, University of Oxford), Revd Dr Harriet Harris (University Chaplain and Head of the Chaplaincy Service, University of Edinburgh), and Oliver Pritchard (Deputy Director of the Student Journey, University of Sunderland).

Spaces are limited so please book as soon as possible. There will be a similar event in Coventry (1st May) and Canterbury (7th June). For details or other queries contact Mathew Guest at m.j.guest@durham.ac.uk
