Event description

Description

Trying to find that perfect character for a story or novel that everyone will love, or loathe? Got a character in mind but want to get to know them better? Or just want to have some fun creating weird and wonderful people?

This workshop will help you create characters from scratch or build existing characters. Through a range of interactive activities to get you thinking and writing, you will know your characters inside out by the end of the session. You'll be an expert in their likes and dislikes, their wildest dreams and their greatest fears and you'll understand exactly what makes them tick. Just like rediscovering a long-lost friend (or foe).

Lisa Burns

Lisa Burns has been a primary school teacher in South Tyneside for seven years and has lived in South Shields for the same amount of time.

Lisa is a group leader for Cuckoo Young Writers, part of New Writing North, which is aimed at young people aged 12-19. The group, based at The Word in South Shields, gives them opportunities to write, get feedback on their work and find places to submit their finished pieces.

Lisa attends Holmeside Writers in Sunderland on a monthly basis which she credits with getting her back into writing. She has participated in a mentorship programme run by Writers’ Block, North East and this helped her to complete her first (currently unpublished) novel which is in the young adult genre.
