Charcoal Making Using Rhododendron

Learn how to make charcoal out of Rhododendron using a 6ft metal Kiln and also a smaller oil drum sized burner, the whole day will be spent outdoors.
The full charcoal process from start to finish will be explained including preparing timber and kiln, health & safety in the working area, stacking and lighting kiln and tending to the burning process throughout the day plus grading and bagging the finished charcoal for sale.
Moderate physical activity will be required for charcoal burning.
An extra task on offer will be to help cut and clear Rhododendron using hand tools.
A prompt start is required to allow enough burn time and all training will be covered by mid-afternoon. The timings advertised are to cover a full burn, and Rangers will be on site until at least 8pm so please feel free to stay or leave whenever it suits.
All tools and PPE will be provided.
