RVA is pleased to introduce this NEW training for charity trustees/ committee members and managers. This training has been gratefully funded by Berkshire Community Foundation, which means we can offer FREE of charge spaces to local groups. We will be repeating this training later in the year.

This is our in-depth level training. We also have an entry level session, please see our training page. You are welcome to attend either or both levels of training.

The aim is to help charities and community groups in Reading to become financially resilient. This half day session is to help you understand the charity finance and governance so you can make good use of financial information in your trustee or committee meetings and make good financial decisions for your charity as well as ensuring good practice.

Who should attend this training?

This half day online session is aimed at those who either work in a management role in a charity or volunteer as a trustee. It would be useful to those in the role of a treasurer but also to non-treasurer trustees. The aim is to help you make good financial decisions, so it is important to all trustees. You may find it helpful to also attend our entry level training ‘Understanding Charity Finances’ first but this is not required if you feel you have a good basic understanding to begin with.

Please note that this session is only available for charities or community groups offering services in Reading.

What will the session cover?

The session will take you through your core financial duties in running a charity and good financial governance practices. There will be an opportunity to go a little more in-depth during the session . It is designed to give you understanding and confidence to know:

  • What good financial governance is
  • How to ensure compliance with the Charity Commission, HMRC and where appropriate Companies House
  • How to review your charity’s financial position and performance
  • A discussion of how to deal with governance challenges and uncertainty.

Who will deliver the training?

RVA consultant trainer, Rachel Eden of Holybrook Associates will deliver this training. Rachel is a chartered accountant with many years’ experience of charity finances and accounts.

This session will be delivered online via Zoom and a booking link will be sent out to you in advance, usually a few days before the session.
