About this event

Charlie Haylock is a spoken English historian and author of "In a Manner of Speaking" and best-selling author including, "Sloightly on th' Huh", an affectionate look at Suffolk.

Charlie and "The Dig"

This is an intriguing and sometimes hilarious look behind-the-scenes in the making of the Netflix film "The Dig" . . . a film based on a novel with the same title about the famous Sutton Hoo burial ship and the people involved.

Charlie will explain how a potential "scam" email from "The Dig" producer, turned out to be real, and was followed by a phone call from Ralph Fiennes.

Charlie will show how Ralph Fiennes, who played Basil Brown, and the other "Suffolk" actors learnt their Suffolk accent . . . and went to great lengths not sound like West Country pirates!

Charlie also includes a dialect tour of the British Isles showing how a deaf person can lip read and tell what dialect it is . . . and one of the reasons why he was selected to be Ralph's dialect coach.

Charlie will also explain the detailed and extreme lengths Ralph Fiennes took, not only to play the part of Basil Brown . . . but to actually become Basil Brown as well.

The talk is both very informative and entertaining
