Objective

This master class is aimed at YINI students during their year in industry who will learn of the benefits of membership of a Professional Engineering Institution (PEI) and of working towards professional registration under the Engineering Council competence framework. Although illustrations are provided of the IET process, the principles will be valid for any PEI. The students will understand both the potential benefits of this engagement to their future careers and also receive an introduction to recording competence evidence and maintaining a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record.

Trainer

Dick Bacon is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IET. His primary career was in radar, telecommunications and procurement and he is now the Manager of Professional Development for the IET. This role is responsible for the provision of services that enable members to demonstrate their professionalism by achieving professional registration and includes setting policy on initial and continuing professional development, delivering mentoring support, training and the provision of an online competence management tool.
