Beginner Friendly Hand Sewing Garment Repair and Alterations Workshop

In this class, you will learn how to darn holes in clothes loved by moths, sew a seam that has come undone, or patch a pocket that has become overused just enough, even how to shorten a hem. All done by hand as visible repairs.Bring your own garments along to repair in person or give some hand stitching a go on a pre-prepared cloth sample. All equipment is provided. This is a group class though everyone will be working on their own projects.You will be in safe hands learning from Claire, The Ethical Tailor. With over 5 years of teaching sewing skills behind her, and 15 years in garment-making and alterations.

Everyone is welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in the class?

Needles, thread, pins, scissors and unpickers are all provided. There will be a selection of cloth for patches too. I can not guarantee colour matching if thread and cloth.

Are beginners welcome?

No previous experience of sewing is needed.

Is this a group class?

Yes, tell your friends to come too.

Are children able to take part?

Yes with a paying adult.

Can I bring my own cloth and / or equipment?

Yes you are welcome to bring your own cloth, thread and / or equipment. You just can not bring a sewing machine.

What is the aim of the class?

The class will give you skills for life. Hand repairs are a great way to prolong the life of your favourite garments. Visible repairs are also a great way to celebrate the life of your garments too.

How many garments can I bring to repair?

Bring as many as you wish. Hand sewing is a slower process so you may only get through a couple of patches.
