Cheltenham Treasure Hunt - The Mayor's Charities
Mon 24 October 2016, 10:00 – 14:00 BST
An enjoyable and healthy Half Term activity for friends & families to discover and explore the Regency Spa town of Cheltenham. The start location for the Treasure Hunt will be the Montpellier room in the Municipal offices on the Promenade. Teas, coffees and cakes will available on the day there will also be a raffle taking place. There will be a prize for the winning family or group of the Treasure Hunt.
The Treasure Hunt has been organised as a fundraiser for the Mayor of Cheltenham’s Charity Appeal 2016/17. The Mayor’s chosen charities are County Community Projects (CCP) and St Vincent’s & St Georges.
There have already been several fundraising events organised by the mayor’s charity committee, including the Eagle tower abseil & Spa Water celebration. We also have a number of other events planned up to May 2017. Chris Ryder the current Mayor of Cheltenham said “We are hoping this year will be a record breaking fundraising year for the mayor’s charity appeal, the two charities I have chosen are both based locally delivering life changing services for local people which I am extremely passionate about. The more funds we can raise will mean these great charities can support even more local people.”
The Treasure Hunt will follow a 2.2 mile route around Cheltenham town centre, whilst discovering some hidden gems that are often bypassed. Teams will be set off at five minute intervals, with the objective being to solve the clues and find the answers.
Clues will be a suited to both adults and children, a mix of observational, cryptic, and mathematical, and the answers will found on buildings, information boards, street signs, gravestones etc. Follow the directions, look around as you walk, and when you find the answer to a clue, it will be obvious! There will also be some general knowledge and photo questions thrown in. You will be supplied with questions and answer sheet which needs to be handed in for scoring at the end.
Completing the route will take around 2 hours - but it's NOT A RACE! Your team will gain points for solving clues, not for getting back in the quickest time! Some of the route follows footpaths alongside roads, so if you are walking with children, please be mindful of their safety. All participants take part at their own risk and the event organisers cannot accept any responsibility for incidents.
The event is for families and friends to enjoy together. Teams will set off at 5 minute intervals following a short briefing. You can book a 30 minute starting time slot and your team will set off at the next available 5 minute interval after you arrive in the Montpellier Room. Please aim to arrive at the start of your time slot.
Tickets are priced at £10 for a team of up to 5 people (adult and up to 4 children, for example).
Children under the age of 14 years old MUST be accompanied by an adult. The event organisers are unable to take any responsibility for unaccompanied children.
Young people aged 14 and over may participate without an adult. By purchasing a ticket, the responsible adult is giving permission for the young person to participate.
