Event description

Description

It's wine tasting, Jim, but not as we know it....

Enjoy a short talk about chemistry research going on here in the Department, followed by four rounds of unusual and delicious wines, in which three chemistry (but not necessarily wine!) experts will describe each wine's attributes - the catch is that you and your table must decide who is telling the truth, and who is bluffing!

Meet the students (5:30 - 6 pm)

Sip on your first glass of wine and try to guess its provenance as you stroll through the student poster exhibition, where real, live students will be eager to explain their research posters, chosen from the winners of the Department's "Showcasing Chemistry" event earlier in the week - an event which all second-year postgraduates participate in as part of their science communication training.

Hear more about our research and try to beat the experts (6 - 8 pm)

This year, at your request, we will kick off the wine tasting with a 10-minute chemistry talk by a scientist in the department, followed by the usual good wine and bad puns. All accompanied by cheese, crackers and this year's fiendish wine quiz, designed to separate the oenophiles from the oenoillaterati (editor's note: Is this really a word??).

Caveats

We host this Call My Bluff wine tasting every year on the opening Friday of the University of Cambridge Alumni Festival in September. We apologise that this year's slightly later time (due to your feedback) will cause the event to clash with the Vice Chancellor's reception. We have also introduced a small charge for the event - but we hope you will agree this still represents excellent value, and you may still purchase up to four tickets. The event is aimed at alumni of this Department, but is open to all University of Cambridge alumni.
