Join senior Tai Chi teacher Li Ho 文莉 for this premier course combining Chen Style Tai Chi (陳氏太極拳) with Baduanjin Qigong (八段錦). Over the course of 10 hour-long lessons for beginners, students will learn the foundation movements of Chen Style, consisting of 'Silk Reeling'. Silk Reeling is a set of repetitive spiral movements with the arms and hands, with alternating fast/slow motion and bursts of power. The Chen Style Tai Chi 11 form is a simplified form based on authentic Chen Style Tai Chi Old Frame or Laojia. Students will also become familiar with the 8 movements, or Pieces of Brocade, of Baduanjin Qigong. Baduanjin is one of the most common forms of Chinese Qigong used as exercise and is primarily designated as a form of medical Qigong, meant to improve health. The name of the form generally refers to how the eight individual movements of the form characterize and impart a silken quality (like that of a piece of brocade) to the body.
This course is for health and exercise purposes and does not include combat. Please note however, that Tai Chi is a martial art and students should expect physically rigorous exercise during the course. If you have a physical disability or have suffered an injury which impedes flexibility and movement please seek advice from your doctor before reserving a place on the course.
