Event description

Description

Be inspired! Register for the Friends of Chesham Grammar School’s 5k Fun Run.

We’re looking forward to welcoming CGS pupils, parents and friends on Sunday 3rd May for a day of fun!

Run, jog or walk our first ever 5k fun run and help raise funds for the school. Young or old, endurance runner or Couch to 5k-er, you’re all invited to take part.

Running not your thing? You can still get involved - join us as a volunteer to help on the day, or as a spectator, cheering on your family and friends!

Medals will be given to all runners, with prizes available for the best runners in age and gender, and for champion fundraisers.

Registration will be from 9am, with the Fun Run starting at 11am.

Chesham Grammar School Fun Run 5k Route

The 5k course is run around the grounds of Chesham Grammar School (White Hill, Chesham, HP5 1BA) and the adjoining farmland.

With marshalling provided by Air Cadets from 2204 Chesham & Amersham Squadron, and additional marshalling, along with First Aid, provided by the Army Cadets 6th Platoon (Chesham), you’re in safe hands.

But I don't want to be last...

Don’t worry! You won’t be. Our Tail Walker will be bringing up the rear, making sure everyone gets back to the event field safely.

Not ready for a 5k? We’ve got just the thing to help you get fit and ready for the event with a Couch to 5k (CT5K) programme, so you can run a personal best on the day.

Want to find out if the course is accessible for all? Email the event team for course information at focgsfunrun@gmail.com.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What time do I need to arrive?

Registration will be from 9am, with the Fun Run starting at 11am. Presentations are planned from 12:30pm.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You will receive a QR code via email for each registered runner. Please bring the printed QR code, or present the email on your phone, so that you can be scanned in on arrival.

Can I register and pay on the day?

Registration on the day is possible, but will cost £15 (cash or card) in order to cover extra administration.

Will food and drink be available on the day?

Catering, water stations and more will be set up at the event. You'll be hungry and thirsty after your run, so bring some change.

What are my transport/ parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is NO parking in the adjoining leisure centre. Car parking will be available but limited on Chesham Grammar School premises, we recommend parking sensibly in the local area, single yellow line parking is permitted on a Sunday.

Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and local residents.

Please also watch out for other people when arriving and leaving. Parking will be limited, so try to arrive early.

Can only CGS pupils and family run?

We absolutely encourage you to bring along friends and family not associated with the school, our aim is to establish the Chesham Grammar School Fun Run as a popular, well-attended annual event and continue to raise money for our school.

Do I have to fundraise in order to run?

You don’t, but we’d love it if you did! The CGS Fun Run has replaced the FOCGS Spring Fair in raising funds for the school, so your support is greatly appreciated.

This year we are aiming to provide funds to complete the quad and once the Friends’ AGM has taken place, we’ll be able to tell you what else your money will support this year.

If you’re happy to fundraise, please join the CGS Fun Run Team Just Giving page and click ‘Join Team’ to link your sponsorship donations to the Fun Run target.

Are children allowed?

Yes. All under 11s must be within arm's reach of a parent, guardian or other designated adult of the parents' choice at the event. This is an insurance requirement.

Running whilst carrying a child of any age (whether in a front or back baby carrier/harness, in your arms, on your shoulders or piggyback) is not permitted during events, as it poses a substantial safety risk. Walking whilst carrying a baby or child is permitted as long as their safety and welfare is not compromised.

Whilst we fully accept our duty of care and will do everything we can to minimise risk of injury and harm to all participants whilst at the event, it is parent/guardians who ultimately have responsibility for the welfare of their children.

Can I run with a pushchair or buggy?

Yes, buggies are allowed at our event, subject to course conditions.

Being carried or pushed around in a buggy or pushchair doesn’t require registration, but we should also make clear that only those people who complete the course under their own steam will get a finish position.

Please take care of other participants around you. If possible, start from the back of the field and try to keep to one side of the main body of participants.

Bicycles, balance bikes, hand cycles and scooters are not allowed.

Do I have to complete the run?

If you don't feel you can complete the full course, you are still very welcome to join us, but please do not cross the finish line or take a finisher’s token.

Can we bring our dog to the event?

No. Dogs are not allowed to take part or accompany volunteers during the event, and are not permitted on school premises, with the exception of assistance dogs.

Am I fit enough to run?

We would recommend that all our participants follow the health advice on the Runners' Medical Resources Website.

How do I join the Couch to 5k (CT5K) programme?

Look out on our social media pages for our weekly session cards that will guide you through an 8-week programme, taking you from zero running to being able to run 5k. Give it a try - with a bit of preparation, you’ll be fit and ready to take part in the run.

What should I wear?

Whether you join us to volunteer, walk, jog or run, please wear something comfortable and suitable for outdoor use. There are no hard and fast rules, but please bear in mind that this is a family-friendly event and dress appropriately.

Predominately run on grass, it is generally suitable for either road trainers or trail shoes, depending on conditions. Sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain.

Is there somewhere to leave my stuff while I run?

We will provide a (covered) bag drop area, which will be monitored during the event, but contents are still left at the owner's risk.

Can I run with my headphones and listen to music?

We would rather you didn't - it makes it difficult for our marshals to communicate with you. We appreciate that some participants do feel naked without their music, so they are not banned outright.

We do ask that as a courtesy to the volunteers, you remove headphones from your ears during the safety briefing before the start, and on approaching the finish area.

Finally, please keep the volume at a suitable level to be able to hear any marshals’ instructions out on the course too.

Will photos be taken at the event?

Yes, photography or filming is likely to take place at the event. Images captured at events may be published on the event’s social media feeds and/or the event website.

Official photographs will be available here http://tinyurl.com/sdk8hwo after the event.

If you do not want your photos to be published, please contact the Event Organiser in advance.

I can’t run on the day; can I have a refund?

No. Registration fees cannot be reclaimed by the event organisers and passed on to you. Your registration fee will kindly remain as a donation to the school. Tickets are not transferrable.

Any other terms and conditions?

Yes. All runners take part at their own risk and all spectators attend at their own risk. The organisers will not be responsible for any injuries sustained or property lost or damaged. Your entering the run or coming along to the event is deemed your acceptance of this.

How can I contact the event organiser with any questions?
