Chesil Spring Bird Walk
Overview
Join us for a guided bird walk to spot some of the winter birds found along Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon.
Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon are internationally important areas for nature conservation, supporting a great diversity of wildlife and their associated habitats.
Throughout the guided walk we will aim to spot as many species of birds as possible and following a falling tide, offers the best chance to see many of our waders, including oystercatcher and ringed plover. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and more information about the nature reserve will be given throughout the walk.
The walk will start 11:00 and will last for approximately 1.5 hours. Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time.
Please bring with you binoculars and if you have a telescope, that may be useful too. We do have a very limited number of binoculars to borrow and there will also be use of a telescope.
This event is suitable for beginners to birdwatching and for families, but all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Sturdy footwear (eg walking boots) is recommended as we will be going over some uneven ground, and as the site is fairly exposed, please bring with you plenty of warm clothing and waterproofs just in case!
Unfortunately, no dogs are permitted on this event.
There is a large council-owned pay and display car park (Chesil Beach Pay & Display) next to the Wild Chesil Centre. Please note, parking charges are not included in the event ticket cost.
If coming by public transport, the number 1 bus runs regularly between Weymouth and Portland. If travelling from Weymouth direction the closest bus stop is Wyke Regis, opposite Ferrybridge and if travelling from Portland direction is Wyke Regis, Chesil Beach Holiday Park. It is then approximately a 10-15 minute walk to the centre.
