About the exhibition

After completing an apprenticeship at Harlow Technical College, Cedric Christie used his knowledge of welding to make sculptures, first exhibiting in 1994. He has since lectured and exhibited widely in the United Kingdom and internationally. His practice explores a broad range of cultural and art historical references, often using humour and irony as subtle vehicles of communication. He incorporates and manipulates everyday objects such as snooker balls, scaffolding, and even cars to create sculptures that are meticulously and skilfully made. Colour Has No Words is a solo exhibition of new work exploring the question that underpins Christie’s practice: what is colour?

Christie now lives and works in East London and was a visiting professor at Bath Spa University.
