We are extremely excited to be joined by Artist Chi Zhang, an experienced instructor featured in the BBC documentary “The Art of Chinese Brush Painting.”

Chinese landscape painting, known as Shan Shui (literally “mountain and water”), has been refined over more than a thousand years. This art form emphasizes the natural world, often imbued with symbolic meaning, and is brought to life through expressive brushwork and flowing ink.

In this session, you will:

● Explore the fundamentals of Chinese brush painting techniques

● Learn to represent mountains, water, and other natural elements

● Develop your skills at your own pace with guidance from an expert instructor

Suggested Materials:

(Don’t worry if you don’t have everything, join with what you’ve got! You’ll also have 14

days of access to the class recording to revisit any section.)

● Chinese brush (medium-small, ideally a set of 3 with different sizes)

● Chinese bottled ink (small pack)

● Chinese rice paper (Xuan paper)

● Colour palette or ink saucer

● Water jar with clean water

● Old blanket or felt to protect your table

● Tissue or kitchen roll for drying your brush/artwork

● Optional: Any other materials you’d like to experiment with

Who this class is for:

● Complete beginners curious about Chinese brush painting

● Practicing artists looking to expand their techniques

● Anyone interested in exploring traditional Chinese art online

Tickets:

We suggest an amount of £20. However, we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on this basis whilst also giving our tutors a sustainable wage.

There is also a ticket option to "Pay It Forward" to support us and our students! We offer classes for free to those who can't afford the minimum amount (If this is you please email us to join for free). This continues to ensure our classes are available to everyone!

Once booked:

You will receive a confirmation email and be able to access information on how to join the event via your eventbrite "Online Event Page" You can access this by signing into eventbrite or creating an account using the email address that you booked with.

In the Class:

You can't be seen or heard in our classes, your audio and video are automatically turned off and there's no way these can be turned on. You can talk to us and others in the class in the chat box!

ARE YOU TRYING TO BOOK VIA THE EVENTBRITE PHONE APP?!
