Event description

Description

This workshop is designed for SENCos and Teaching Assistants with responsibility for SEND, in the primary setting.

Drawing on her knowledge as a SEN & Disability Consultant and former Head of SEND Service, but most significantly, her experience of assessing and supporting children in mainstream schools, Heather will be exploring some of the common forms of social, emotional and mental health difficulties in primary aged children.

  1. Latest news on the current mental health landscape in educational policy

  2. Explore and share common forms of emotional and mental health difficulties

  3. Understand the shift from a 'difficult phase' to one that requires further investigation

  4. Tune into wider environmental factors, such as bereavement, divorce, house or school move

  5. Gain the early support and understanding of parents and carers

  6. Develop strategic circles of strength across education and health services

  7. Avoid 'waiting list limbo' by developing interventions that make a difference

Some of the mental health case studies will focus on the following areas of difficulty -

Anxiety disorder
Loneliness and social isolation
Tourette's Syndrome
Trichotillomania and other impulse control disorders
Self harm
Low mood states and depression
Self sabotaging behaviours
Anger and aggression

This workshop is one of three being delivered in Warwickshire over the Autumn Term 2017. Each workshop will follow the same agenda, allowing time for a greater knowledge base and understanding to develop, supporting schools to better prepare for and support primary aged children experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties.

If you are interested in this workshop theme and would like to host this event at your school anywhere within the UK, please get in touch via info@thelocaloffer.co.uk. Host schools gain 3 free places to attend the event, based on suitable training room facilities and other amenities. This event can also be extended to cover a full day workshop, with exploratory work specific to your context included in the afternoon session.

One to one time can be allocated by appointment at the end of each workshop for further discussion over specific concerns.
