Child Safeguarding training for Designated Safeguarding Leads

Course content

This CPD-accredited course is for Designated or deputy Safeguarding Leads includes information and learning regarding:

  • The legal responsibilities and duties of Designated Safeguarding Lead

  • Practice examples and learning from Case Reviews

  • The factors to consider when there is a child safeguarding concern or allegation against an adult working with children or young people

  • Confidentiality and Information sharing as applied to practice

  • Updates regarding the latest research and practice innovations

  • The barriers to reporting concerns and best practice ‘behaviours’

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the participants will develop an advanced knowledge of child protection and safeguarding and will

  • be able to describe the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, reflecting the current statutory guidance and the multi-agency practice responses for child safeguarding and specific concerns

  • know what actions to take to ensure the safety and welfare of children and young people with whom their organisation has contact

  • have considered overcoming the blocks to staff reporting concerns and how to address these

  • have explored how to make appropriate decisions about the action to take when informed of a concern and how to manage the risk to children and young people.

  • be clear about the process for managing allegations against a staff or volunteer.

  • be able to dentify and apply a ‘best practice’ approach to ensure confidentiality, sharing of information and recording practices

  • develop an awareness of the emotional dimension of safeguarding work and identify a network for personal support

Who should attend?

This course is for designated and deputy safeguarding leads working with children in education, housing, health, charities, sports or leisure sector organisations, who have previously attended an introductory level course in child protection.

Please Note: This course is not designed for experienced safeguarding leads or local authority staff.
