The NWG and Edge Hill University's Dr Mike Hartill have collaborated to develop a course designed to provide a greater comprehension into the issue of child sexual exploitation within sport.

This course will provide delegates with the historical context of child sexual exploitation in sport within the UK and beyond. The course will consider developments in policy that have been put into place to safeguard children and how this can inform their practice. Learning will be enriched through the use of the voices of survivors of CSE in sport an aid their practice and policy

This course is aimed at anyone working within sport who wants to broaden their understanding of abuse in sport along with multi-agency practitioners who work alongside children, young people and their families who wish to extend their understanding and practice in the field of sport.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course delegates will be able to;

- Define Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and recognise various models of CSE.

- Understand the historical context of exploitation and abuse within sport and how this can impact on young people disclosing abuse.

- Describe the NWG Process of CSE and what happens within the stages of the process, including being able to give examples that are specific to the sporting arena.

- Verbalise what they have learnt about perpetrators of CSE.

- Articulate the prevalence of exploitation and abuse within sport and how it can impact on the wellbeing of young people.

- Consider and explain the impact perceptions of sport have on personal and organisational and societal beliefs.

- Identify vulnerabilities of young people.

- Understand what consent means and its connection with CSE and Sport.

- Understand how policy has developed and how this impacts on our professional roles.

Identifying good practice and giving consideration to how this may influence change in our organisations.

  • Transport and parking information

The venue is located on the East Service Road just off Raynesway (A5111). Turn into the Riverside Business Park and follow it to the right and right again into the large car park - you can park anywhere in the car park for free and head for the far left corner where our offices are located.

We are easy accessibility to J24 of the M1 and East Midlands Airport via the A50, reached by the A5111 and A6. The adjacent A52 dual carriageway is one of the city's principle transport routes, connection with J25 of the M1 to the east before passing into the neighbouring city of Nottingham.

It is a 20 minute cycle or a 10 minute taxi ride from the closest train station (Derby) or a 40/50 minute walk along the river!

  • What is the refund policy?

Once a place is secured you may amend your delegate name without charge. You may cancel your booking up to one calendar month without charge. Any cancellations made within two weeks of the seminar date will incur 50% charge. Any cancellations made within a week of the forum date will be liable for full payment. If we cancel the forum for any reason, we will refund 100% of the fee, but will not be held liable for any travel or accommodation costs incurred. We always endeavour to reschedule a forum as opposed to cancelling it.

  • Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

In the event of you being unable to attend you may transfer your ticket to a colleague with prior permission from the NWG.
