Event description
Helen Bonnick, one of the country's leading experts on CPVA, will discuss practice and research on this critical subject

About this Event

Child to parent violence and abuse (CPVA) has been described as the most hidden aspect of family violence, but it is now receiving significant attention both across the media and within academic circles. There are few reliable statistics despite the media assertions, yet practitioners report that it is an issue that affects a large part of their caseloads, and it is likely that each of us knows at least one family affected personally. Despite this, services have been criticised for failing to respond in a way that is either sensitive or effective. Why is this, and what can we do about it? Based on fifteen years of work in this field, Helen will lead us through the myths, traps and stumbling blocks of CPVA, and suggest some ways forward for the future.

Helen’s book, Child to Parent Violence and Abuse: A Practitioner’s Guide to Working with Families, published in May 2019, will be available to purchase at a 20% discount.
