Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport: Officer Training

Training for Safeguarding Officers

The Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport: Officer Training (CWPO) has been developed in response to feedback from across the sports sector and consists of a single workshop created by sportscotland in partnership with Children 1st to refresh and update the content to reflect changes in society and sport and be more relevant for current safeguarding practice.

Who should attend

This three-hour workshop is aimed at adults over the age of 18 taking a lead on child wellbeing and protection in sport (eg safeguarding officers, team managers etc.) in sports organisations that have participants under the age of 18. It is most suitable for those in the role of Club Safeguarding Officer but is also relevant for those responsible for managing or organising the club.

The course aims to:

Provide participants with core knowledge and the opportunity to develop skills in fulfilling their role as Club Safeguarding Officer.

Help clubs implement practices and procedures to keep children and young people safe.

Case management skills are a significant element of the training. Using layered case studies, interactive group work and personal reflection tasks, delegates will be supported to develop key skills and knowledge required to promote the wellbeing of children and young people in sport and respond effectively to concerns of harm or abuse.

Prerequisites for attendance are:

A minimum age of 18 years old.

Completion of Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport training (CWPS) within the past three years.

On completion, attendees will receive a certificate.
