Childhood Practice Event
Welcome to the first Childhood Practice event held at Inverness College, UHI. This event is aimed at childhood practice students, childhood practitioners, managers, employers and other relevant stakeholders.
This years' event features keynote speaker Dr Alice Mongiello, BA (Hons) Childhood Practice Programme Leader. Alice’s presentation will focus on ways in which undertaking a Childhood Practice Degree has the potential to transform learners’ lives as well as have a positive impact on outcomes for children and families.
The conference also consists of workshops and stalls/exhibits.
Please select two workshops from the options available - one in each session. Details of the workshops can be found when registering for the event.
An array of stalls and exhibits will also be available such as, Jan Barclay - mindfulness with children, Chip +, Care and Learning Alliance, plus many more!
On successful completion of this event, attendees will be awarded a certificate, which will count towards Continuous Professional Development (CPD) evidence.
Key note speaker biography
Dr Alice Mongiello
Alice is BA (Hons) Childhood Practice Programme Leader based at Inverness College, UHI. In 2015 Alice completed a Doctorate of Education (EdD). Her doctoral research explored ways in which graduates’ lives were transformed as a result of completing a Childhood Practice Degree in an online educational context. Alice is particularly interested in learners’ individual journeys as they undertake degree level study.
Alice worked as a Childhood Practitioner for 6 years in several private sector settings in Tucson, Arizona and Edinburgh, while building on her undergraduate studies. During her time employed as a Practitioner, Alice completed a Master of Education (MEd), several Master’s level modules and post-graduate research specialising in aspects related to early learning and child care.
In 2016, Alice successfully became a Senior Fellow with the Higher Education Academy (HEA). For the past 3 years, Alice has also taken on the role as External Examiner for BA Childhood Practice delivered at University of Edinburgh.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Inverness College UHI will have ample parking on the day. Also, buses regularly run to and from the city centre to the campus.
