About this Event

CHILDMINDERS Safeguarding Children E-Learning (9999)

This course is for registered Childminders operating in Leicestershire only.

If you book onto this course and you are not a registered Childminder operating in LeicestershireSHIRE your booking will not be processed and you will not be refunded.

You can access this course directly from PACEY here:-

https://www.pacey.org.uk/shop/training/online-training/safeguarding-children/

The course covers your duty of care and how this links to regulation. Many of the aspects of safeguarding children are generic, for example risk assessing and signs and symptoms, however how you report will depend on your own local authority.  So here we look at how you can identify your own local procedures. You'll also explore your responsibilities as either a lone worker or an employer.

You will know the children in your care very well and will be alert to any issues or concerns. The course looks at different types of abuse and how you might recognise any signs. You will also learn what actions you need to take if needed.

The final section of the course covers policies and procedures and encourages you to consider the procedures you will follow, whether you work alone or in a group setting. Having and reviewing a safeguarding policy allows you to clearly demonstrate to parents, colleagues and regulatory bodies that you understand the importance of having a clear procedure to follow should you have any concerns over a child, parent or colleague.

Leicestershire County Council’s Early Learning and Childcare Service recommends for best practice that all Leicestershire Early Years Providers and Practitioners including Childminders and Out of School Clubs follow and adhere to The Safeguarding Children Competency Framework

The Competency Framework recommends that training/learning is attended every three years (minimum), and, best practice would be for this to be multi-agency training. As well as meeting the competencies within the Framework, attending multi-agency training will support with learning, networking and will allow organisations to better understand the roles of partner agencies. This particularly applies to those who carry out safeguarding assessments and investigations.

The Competency Framework acknowledges that in addition to traditional training events, there are different ways of learning and developing. Whilst training activities help to provide the knowledge and skills that contribute to staff being able to meet their competencies. Attending a training course does not automatically mean that the competencies will have been met - discussion and verification after the event may be required.
