*To explore current issues and challenges around commissioning adequate oral health services for children.
*To review development of the Commissioning Guide for Paediatric Dentistry and to explore some of the principles in encompasses.
*To discuss the role of Managed Clinical Networks (MCNs), clinical pathways, outcome measures, and development of the workforce.
By the end of this presentation delegates will have a better understanding of:
*Recent changes in NHS commissioning arrangements
*How the Paediatric Dentistry commissioning guide was developed and what it says
*The principles of MCNs and how these can translate to improvements in oral health care for children
Stephen qualified from Bristol University in 1982, became a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry in 1995 and is currently a Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry based at Leeds Dental Institute, where is he Clinical Lead and Acting Head of Department. Although most of his career has been spent in the hospital service, he has also worked in General Dental Practice and the Community Dental Service. He is Past President of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry and has recently completed his term as Chair of the SAC in Paediatric Dentistry. He is a member of he Faculty Board of the FDS RCS and has recently demitted as chair of the National Consultants in Paediatric Dentistry Group.
