How dance, drama and music can protect children:

Children Change Colombia Project Talk 2019

We would like to invite you to our upcoming Project Talk, to be held on Monday 4th February 2019 at 6.30 pm. The evening will focus on the way that our partners’ projects use arts activities such as drama, dance and music as practical tools for defending children against threats to their safety and for protecting their rights in the long term.

CCC believes that every child has the right to develop their talents. For many children in marginalised communities, this means first overcoming traumas of neglect, abuse and grief. It also means developing a sense of self-worth and an understanding that they have a right to a place in the world where they are not merely the objects of adults, to be used or neglected. Once children grasp this, anything is possible.

Our partners have taught us that the introspection, observation, communication and cooperation involved in making art has the capacity to heal trauma and to foster a sense of self-worth. That’s why the arts play an important role in the majority of our partner projects.

This year we are delighted to be able to show you a specially commissioned short film, featuring interviews with children and young people at the project run by our partner Círculo de Estudios from the Chocó region of Colombia. The film examines the practical impact of arts activities. It is produced by Labzuca, a film unit run by our partner Tiempo de Juego and staffed by young people who once attended the project.

You will also have a chance to put your questions directly to members of our team who work closely with our partners in Colombia. After the talk, we hope you will stay on to enjoy a glass of wine with us. We look forward to seeing you there!
