The seminar will focus on learner centred approaches highlighting ways in which the curriculum could be adapted in both mainstream and special schools. This will include curriculum analysis with a view to restructuring learning programmes. Teaching strategies and techniques, inclusive practice, planning, assessment and target setting as well as social aspects of learning will be addressed.

Laura Wyatt qualified as a primary teacher and worked for two and a half years in mainstream settings before moving to Shepherd School in 2000. She completed a Masters in Learning Disabilities at Birmingham University, and more recently the SENCO award at Nottingham Trent University. Laura currently teaches a class of nine students in an ASD provision class, having previously spent the last sixteen years working with KS2 and KS3 students with PMLD and CLDD at Oak Field School. In addition, she is Deputy Head and leads the Complex Learning Disabilities and Difficulties team with responsibilities including behaviour and physical intervention, multi-sensory impairments, hearing impairments, visual impairments, and a developing role in engagement and students with complex needs.
