This event on 25th April, led by our young food ambassadors, will launch the report and recommendations of the Children Future Food Inquiry. This Inquiry, led by a cross-party group of parliamentarians chaired by Sharon Hodgson MP, focuses on the food situation of children living in poverty across the UK. It draws on a wide variety of evidence but places a central focus on listening directly to school-aged children about their experiences. The report has drawn from evidence from across the UK in all 4 nations.

The Inquiry has placed a central focus on listening directly to young people who experience disadvantage across the UK to hear their views about the food they eat, and what can be done to build a healthier future.

What is it really like for these children who so often hide their suffering as they are ashamed? What is it really like to not know where your next meal is coming from? What can we adults learn from children’s lived experiences of food insecurity? And what do the younger generation believe can be done to alleviate the suffering of so many of our children?

Teachers, Carers, GP’s, Youth Workers and hundreds of young people have fed into the report and it represents a unique opportunity for us to hear directly from those experiencing the effects of food insecurity every day

It is now estimated that over 4 million children in the UK are living in poverty. Poverty means many things but one of the most devastating effects of living below the bread line is not having access to affordable and healthy food. Food insecurity is now being experienced by children across the UK at unprecedented levels. For millions of our children not having a hot meal at school or home is a regular occurrence and this can lead to poor health and an inability to concentrate or learn at school.

We need to urgently deliver strong robust policies to tackle the issues which the Inquiry has highlighted.

Please join us at the event to find out more and hear how you can help to support us to deliver change.
