Children's Human Rights, and Community Learning and Development
Event Information
About this Event
On March 16th 2021, MSPs voted unanimously to enshrine children’s human rights as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into Scots law. This is a significant step on Scotland’s journey towards making human rights real for every child and is reflective of the increasing support for children’s human rights across Scotland’s public bodies and services.
Although children’s human rights will become law in Scotland, we know that for many professionals in Scotland, including CLD practitioners, children’s rights - and sometimes children more generally – are absent from their thinking and their practice.
The aim of this event is to bring together experts in children’s human rights and CLD to consider, at this opportune moment, how we can draw connections between these two important fields.
The event will comprises an online panel and Q&A with
- Dr Marion Allison, Director of CLD Standards Council
- John M Davis, Professor of Education at the University of Strathclyde
- Margaret Ledwith, Emeritus Professor of Community Development and Social Justice at the University of Cumbria
- Cathy McCulloch, Co-Founder and Co-Director of Children's Parliament and a facilitated Q&A session.
The webinar will be facilitated by Clare McGillivray, Founder of Making Rights Real and Board Member of the International Association of Community Development (IACD) .
This webinar will be hosted live on Zoom.
