Children’s Learn to Ride Session: 10am – 11am

* The session will take place in a traffic free area, away from the park and any distractions. It is 1hr long, starting promptly at 10am. Please arrive 10min early.

This session is for young beginners (aged 4-12) who cannot yet pedal without help.

Learning to ride a bike is an achievement that will help build confidence and a natural sense of adventure. Cycling is a great way to move more and get active whilst reducing transport costs and environmental impact. If you're keen to enjoy cycling as a family and get active then we are here to help.

Suitable for complete beginners who want to learn to ride a bike for the first time

Places are limited, please book to secure your spot

Participants will need their own bike and helmet to take part. We do not recommend the use of stabilisers for children as they are not the best way to help the child to learn the necessary skills.

We are working in partnership with 'Friends of Bournville Park' who have secured funding to provide FREE summer cycling sessions. Our aim is to get participants pedalling without assistance and to experience the fun and enjoyment of moving on two wheels.

In these sessions we will teach the following skills: (subject to timing and current ability)

understanding safety equipment and clothing, including helmet
carry out a simple bike check
get on and off the bike without help
pedal without help and stop without help

This class is for children who want to learn to ride a bike for the first time. Children learn differently and some take longer than others. You may need to continue practicing at home or attend more than one session.
