‘Springbank Pavilion’ - is a free nature-inspired arts and wellbeing programme and is part of a partnership between Urban Green Newcastle and The Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and kindly supported by Newcastle Hospitals Charity, LGA Foundation, the Community Foundation and Green Recovery Challenge Fund.

We invite you all to get involved! Whether you’re NHS Trust staff, a patient, a visitor, or part of our wider communities, we hope you find an activity that you would like to take part in.

The programme includes creative workshops in the building (delivered with local cultural organisations Curious Arts, Gem Arts and Chilli Studios) and artists’ activities by Sofia Barton, David de la Haye, Lady Kitt and Sheree Angela Matthews accessible online and in the printed booklet that can be accessed on your lunch break, in your bed on the ward, in the waiting room, or at home.

We encourage you to find ways of connecting to nature, whether you visit the park or pop on a pair of headphones and let local artists take you on an imaginative journey into the fresh air. You can make a leaf garland, create your own drawings, take time to write, and explore the hidden sounds of the park.

We hope these activities inspire you to help those who may have barriers to accessing green spaces, in finding new ways to connect with nature.

Urban Green partnering with Newcastle Hospitals Charity, and their Arts Programme, allows this newly refurbished space to centre creative practice in nature for the benefit of our mutual wellbeing, both now and for our collective environmental futures.

The initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of the LGA Foundation who funded a full refurbishment of the old pavilion building to transform it into a welcoming creative space, ready to host our exciting programme of nature-inspired sessions.

The programme has also received funding from the Community Foundation, who have contributed towards core and project costs required to get these events up and running and fill the newly refurbished building with a variety of workshops and activities that everyone can enjoy.

Green Recovery Challenge Fund have also supported the project with funding towards improvements in former bowling green area outside the pavilion. This is the first stage of plans for longer term development of this well used space in consultation with the local community and our partners.
