Steps Ahead Mentoring offers jobseekers one-to-one mentoring sessions to help them improve their employability skills, boost their confidence and find work. The programme is mainly geared towards young jobseekers (aged 18-24) who are referred to Steps Ahead by Jobcentre Plus advisers, and other selected partners. To date, 73% of those who have completed the programme go on to find work or work experience – proof of the fantastic impact CIPD members can have!
The programme is run by the CIPD (at no cost to the young people or Jobcentre Plus) with support from Nesta and the Cabinet Office via the Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund.
Steps Ahead Mentoring is currently operating across the whole of England with pilots in Scotland, Wales, and plans in place for a pilot in Ireland. We have also recently completed pilots of the programme with other groups including older workers and parent returners to work and hope to extend Steps Ahead support to these groups in 2016.

CIPD Chiltern Branch
CIPD Chiltern Branch is an important local hub for HR professionals, providing opportunities for continuous professional development and two way communication with Head Office, as well as providing a local touch-point for CIPD members with opportunities for networking.
The branch has around 2,200 members from all levels and specialisms across the Human Resources field. From directors to students, we have established links with businesses in the local area as well as the major CIPD course providers (Amersham and Wycombe College, Aylesbury College and Buckinghamshire New University).
Although we have only a limited number of specialist groups, we pride ourselves on providing an annual learning programme that is second to none. Focused around three major hubs, Beaconsfield, Slough and Aylesbury, we hold monthly events that facilitate networking opportunities and personal development in a number of leading edge topics. Through these we strive to help members to develop in their chosen careers and contribute to the success of their organisations.
