An overview of the purpose of CPD generally, and how to use the CPD Map and other tools developed by CIPD in the last 12 months to your advantage. Useful for students, those wishing to upgrade, and generally for practitioners and consultants wanting to keep up with professional practice changes.
Dorothy Smith is a Learning and Development Consultant within the CIPD Training team, which involves design and delivery of competency based qualifications, short courses, and bespoke programmes for industry. She has previously worked with the CIPD as an Associate Trainer, and has been generally involved in the design and delivery of CIPD Qualifications since 2002.
Her professional experience in HR and L&D spans a range of industries within private, public and not for profit sectors. She ran her own HR Consultancy, offering HR and L&D services, which included senior executive coaching, outplacement services, and career development services. Her own career has been built on continuous development, about which she is passionate, and has used a range of methods to develop within her career, starting with the Professional Assessment route, and then taking a Masters in HR Management, with a specialty of International HR. She has worked at Board Level, line manager, and in operations roles, most recently as HR Business Partner to June 2013.
She has been involved with design and delivery of CIPD qualifications at Level 3, 5 and 7 at Colleges and Universities since 2002, to develop their skills to the “best you can be”.

CIPD Chiltern Branch
CIPD Chiltern Branch is an important local hub for HR professionals, providing opportunities for continuous professional development and two way communication with Head Office, as well as providing a local touch-point for CIPD members with opportunities for networking.
The branch has around 2,200 members from all levels and specialisms across the Human Resources field. From directors to students, we have established links with businesses in the local area as well as the major CIPD course providers (Amersham and Wycombe College, Aylesbury College and Buckinghamshire New University).
Although we have only a limited number of specialist groups, we pride ourselves on providing an annual learning programme that is second to none. Focused around three major hubs, Beaconsfield, Slough and Aylesbury, we hold monthly events that facilitate networking opportunities and personal development in a number of leading edge topics. Through these we strive to help members to develop in their chosen careers and contribute to the success of their organisations.
