Chilterns Celebration of Spring Outdoor Photography Walking Exhibition
Event Information
About this Event
Join Chesham based photographer Matt Writtle as he guides you on a tour of his outdoor photography exhibition 'The River Meadow at the Pile of Stones'. As part of the Chilterns Walking Festival in October 2020, Matt conducted a series of artist-led walks detailing the historical, geographical and environmental impact of humanity on Chesham and the River Chess since the first settlers arrived in 8000BC. Due their popularity, Matt is leading one more walk as part of the Chilterns Celebration of Spring Festival. The photographs explore the tangible impact of urbanisation on nature against the backdrop of HS2, excessive water use and pollution due to increased population and winter and spring droughts due to climate change. The images are exhibited outside and, where possible, displayed at the location they were taken. This creates a walk that follows the downstream course of the River Chess and takes the participant on a journey through the town of Chesham, arriving at the beginning of the beautiful Chess Valley walk at Chesham Moor. Here, further images will be displayed providing a perfect spot for a picnic and continuing journey along the Chess Valley.
* A hardback book containing all of the photographs, with a foreword by chalk stream campaign and former Undertones singer Feargal Sharkey, is available on the day or at www.mattwrittle.com/shop *
