Chinese Calligraphy Workshop
Wed 26 April 2017, 10:00 – 13:00 BST
Try your hand at one of the most revered art forms in Asia, taught by our fabulous artists Kai-Ching, Curry and Echo. We guarantee you'll leave this 3-hour workshop feeling uplifted and inspired.
We'll be serving traditional Chinese tea and setting the scene with some background on the upcoming Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, as you settle down and enjoy the tranquil space. You'll be given your own traditional ink stone and ink stick and taught the traditional method of grinding your own ink, a practice commonly believed to relieve stress and tension.
Our calligraphy artists will demonstrate techniques and show you how graceful movements of the wrist are transferred into calligraphy brush strokes. Kai will guide you through the basics of calligraphy, showing you how to write beautiful Chinese characters and how to paint subjects such as scenery and flowers following the theme of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Using traditional brushes, you will put your own flow and energy into your work and create a piece to take home with you.
We'll be finishing off the session by creating a large hanging masterpiece as a group using your new skills.
WHO IS IT FOR?
This is a beginners workshop and has been designed for adults. We have a maximum capacity of 16 people.
If you are an artist or designer this workshop will give you the skills to bring some Chinese elements to your own designs.
Take away your brush, ink block and ink stone and carry on your new skills to develop your own practice at home.
