Event Details

We begin the new year with Guasha 刮痧 (The Treatment, 2001), a tragicomic tale of intercultural miscommunication directed by Zheng Xiaolong 郑晓龙, maker of the popular TV series Beijing ren zai Niuyue 北京人在纽约 (A Native of Beijing in New York).

  • Part of Chinese Film and the Body (20132014): a series of film evenings exploring social and cultural issues related to health, medicine and the body in 20th and 21st century China, as represented in Chinese cinema.
    Organised by the UCL China Centre for Health and Humanity (CCHH).
  • Especially suitable for people interested in:
    Chinese studies, Film Studies,
    Medical Humanities

The film evenings take place on Tuesdays during term-time, from 12th November 2013 to 11th February 2014.

Each screening is presented by by a specialist, and followed by a discussion and/or a live video Q&A session with the director.
