Who would find it beneficial to attend this event

This event is for anyone wishing to understand more about the principles behind herbal, particularly Chinese, medicine. Protocols for the treatment of most illnesses very likely benefit from the inclusion of herbal medicines. Whether you are currently a user of herbs, or are considering their use, or are simply interested in becoming more informed about how to maintain health, this event will bring benefit to all.

At a time when people increasingly recognise that western medical systems are in crisis, the answers are out there if we have the right attitude and know where to look. Chinese medicine is undoubtedly part of this answer. Everyone who wants to improve their current or future health, or the health of people they love, needs to improve their understanding of Chinese medicine.

To make a choice you first need to be informed. To be informed you will value attending this event.

What you will learn by attending

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is rooted in the ancient philosophy of Taoism and dates back more than 2,500 years. TCM covers many practices and this ‘conversation with the audience’ will focus on Chinese herbal medicine and how it is perhaps of increasing relevance at a time when we expect too much of modern day pharmaceutical medicines.

I am so excited that we will be treated to the insights of Michael McIntyre, undoubtedly one of the foremost authorities on Chinese herbal practice in the UK. See below for more information about Michael.

Amongst the many topics Michael will lead a discussion on, are:

  1. The essential principles of ancient Chinese herbal medicine
  2. How you can integrate the use of Chinese herbs with western herbal medicine and herbs in your garden
  3. Blood flow, detoxification and the immune system: just some of compromised body functions underpinning many of our illnesses where the use of herbs has proven benefit
  4. Benefits of the Chinese medical approach versus conventional medical approaches
  5. How traditional Chinese medicine can work side by side with Western medicine
  6. The challenges that Chinese medicine faces in being widely adopted into our health protocols
  7. Chinese herbal medicine and its evidence of effectiveness.

Being a former ignorant skeptic, but now a passionate convert, I will give you my perspective on how I have integrated Michael’s herbs into my daily healthcare routines. In addition to using herbs to manage my terminal cancer, I will elaborate on how have also used them to manage other lifestyle restricting ailments.

About Michael McIntyre

Michael McIntyre (the original Michael McIntyre !) has over 35 years of experience working with traditional Chinese medicine and herbal medicines from the western tradition. He is delighted to have the opportunity to talk about this - his consuming passion.

When I received my cancer diagnosis 2015 , I was going to leave no stone unturned in devising my own protocol. Being an engineer by training, I was taught that science and logic was the everything that should drive my decision-making. After more than a thousand hours of research into the successful treatment plans that others had used to manage cancer and other chronic illnesses, I knew that I had to change my attitude and be more open minded. I had to include Chinese medicine in my treatment plan. More specifically, by the time that I had read about, or been recommended, Michael and his work, on more than 5 occasions, I knew that there was simply no better person to consult.

Michael has many achievements and accolades

  • after graduating from Oxford University he trained at the Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Peoples Republic of China, in both Chinese herbal medicine and Chinese acupuncture
  • he is currently Chair of the European Herbal and Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association
  • he launched the first UK school of Chinese herbal medicine and subsequently was Principal of this school
  • he is former President of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and is a Fellow and Life member of this professional association
  • he is a life member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine
  • he is the author of several books on herbal medicine

Michael practises in both the Cotswolds and London.

About Nick Parker (The Cancer Journeyman & event organiser)

On Christmas Eve 2015, aged 51, I received the news that everyone dreads: a diagnosis of cancer. My dose was a particularly nasty, aggressive and advanced variety. Having started in my prostate it had spread all over my skeleton. There were too many sites of cancer to for the doctors to be able to quantify, so they didn't try.

With no cure possible, I was put on a pallative care programme. I did not ask for statistics: I am not a statistic and I had enough gut feel for the odds. I reasoned that if I worked hard at it, harder that I have ever worked at a project in my life, then why couldn't I put claim one of the 5 places in the 5% of people who survive (whatever that means) a terminal diagnosis. I just had to work harder than 95% of other people.

On 23rd June 2016, just 7 months after diagnosis, and after whole body scanning, I was informed by my medicial team that there was no evidence of disease remaining in my body. Whilst delighted with the news, I know how tricky cancer is to contain on a permanent basis. There is no room for complacency or slippage: every day I am working on maintaining the positive belief and actions that will keep my disease under control.

I have left no stone unturned in an 18 month journey. True to say though that I keep some treatment options in reserve until the time necessitates. I have chosen to avoid much (but not all) recommended conventional treatment. Some people summarise this as poison, slash and burn. I have experimented with the latest thinking in holistic therapies for the mind, body and soul. I have measured the results to find my own evidence of effectiveness and integrated the successful approaches into my daily life.

I still put in a full working week and have become a more complete and content human than I ever was. Every day I live is better than the last. I was once apologetic about the angst that I subjected my family to, but now we all appreciate the lessons that my condition has taught us.

My life purpose is now redefined: I have been given this wonderful opportunity to use my self-imposed health challenge to reach out to others. My task is to shake people out of their stupor: for most of us, our health is largely our choice. Through the hurly burly of affluent modern living we have forgotten what it means to make daily decisions to live healthily. It is too important to give the responsibility of our healthcare to others, yet most of us do. It is time to stop.
