Confucius Institute for Business London is delighted to host our Chinese New Year celebration: year of the Tiger!
We have planned 2 different activities and are offering limited free places.
- Taichi and Chinese Wellbeing
26th January at 12:00 - 13:00 GMT
The event will start with an Introduction about the beautiful art of health preservation from ancient China: Taichi (also known as Daoyin and Qigong), the Daosist philosophical perception of health and the human body, before doing some movements. The focus is having a go and experience some typical Daoyin movements. The hope is for participants to start developing a new exercise routine for the new year.
The event will run in collaboration with Feixia Yu: Currently Director of Confucius Institute at University of Central Lancashire, Founder of YuTaichi, runs weekly Taichi and Qigong classes on-line and in person. Regularly features at local press and speaks on Taichi, Qigong and wellbeing at BBC Radio Lancashire.
- Celebrating Chinese New Year and Culture - Talk
26th January at 18:00 - 19:00 GMT
Every culture expresses its beliefs and values through a system of signs and symbols. However, we don’t always know what stands behind these visual representations.
As we are approaching one of the most celebrated events in the world – Chinese New Year (also known as Lunar New Year), we would like to have a talk about Chinese symbols, especially those associated with the New Year festivities.
In collaboration with LEVEL, this celebratory event will unveil the history of some must-know Lunar New Year symbols, their history and impact on Chinese life and art. We will talk about most popular symbols decorating not only Chinese homes but also various venues around the world.
About LEVEL:
Level is a group of experts who believe in power of art to initiate personal transformation. We deliver high quality lectures that improve cultural competence and expand our own emotional intelligence through art. The aim of the project is to use artistic practices (like painting, architecture, fashion, language etc) to explore different meanings, philosophies and values of foreign world views. Dismantling stereotypes, cliches and prejudices in a peaceful way of learning holds a beautiful potential to build compassion towards others and simply enjoy the process of understanding arts.
